Eligibility Criteria - Who Is Big Hug Homes For?
Big Hug Homes welcomes adults 18 and older who are looking for a comfortable, affordable place to call home and are open to the benefits of community living.
Our residents come from many different backgrounds and stages of life—from students and working professionals to veterans, seniors, and adults simply looking for a fresh start or a more connected way to live.
Big Hug Homes may be a great fit for adults who can live independently, respect the privacy and personal space of others, and are comfortable sharing common areas such as kitchens, living rooms, dining areas, and outdoor spaces.
You don't have to be experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis to call Big Hug Homes home. You simply need to be looking for a welcoming living environment where independence, comfort, respect, and community come together.
Financial Eligibility & Membership
Big Hug Homes is designed for adults who can live independently and have a reliable source of income to meet their housing commitments.
All prospective members are required to provide proof of verifiable income demonstrating their ability to pay membership fees when due. Acceptable income may come from employment, retirement or pension benefits, Social Security or other qualifying benefits, educational funding, or other verifiable sources of recurring income.
Membership fees may be paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on the terms of the individual membership agreement.
Our goal is to keep the process simple and accessible while helping ensure that each prospective member is financially prepared for their housing commitment.
Big Hug Homes provides community-based, non-clinical housing and does not provide 24-hour medical care, inpatient psychiatric treatment, or secure residential care. Prospective members should be able to live independently within a shared-home environment and safely participate in community living.
Referral Sources
Referrals may be submitted by social service agencies, healthcare providers, shelters, outreach teams, re-entry programs, transitional housing providers, or through self-referral when space allows.
Required Referral Information
Referral information may include demographic details, housing status, description of support needs, verification of disability or mental health needs when applicable, re-entry documentation when applicable, and contact information for the referring party. Lack of documentation does not automatically disqualify an applicant.
